Succinct and Practical Help — Very Helpful

This book not only succinctly ties everything I have already learned in overcoming my emotional childhood wounds, but has also been extremely helpful in understanding and addressing the wound that made it difficult for me to receive love.

The structure of this book makes it very helpful to work through your wounds. The self-assessment test were very helpful in identifying my own particular fear issue. Furthermore, providing the behavior triggers and behavioral reactions to my particular fear trigger was extremely helpful. Although I am already familiar with much of the information in the remainder of the book, it still helped bring clarity to dealing my own emotional wound in a more healthy manner.

This book is filled with lots of practical exercises with examples to walk you through the healing process. In fact, as a whole, these exercises are more practically helpful than any other book I have read on overcoming trauma (not the only great book though: Rewire Your Brain, Daring to Trust, Learned Optimism, Willpower Instinct and Charisma Myth were also great. Each touch on key principles addressed in this particular book). The chapter on communication covered a variety of important topics, but also done in a succinct manner that makes it easy to incorporate as I open myself for Building Lasting, Loving Relationships.

If you are new to the overcoming the fears and wounds of the past, this is a great book to start.

If you are like me and have been working through your wounds for some time, then this book very well may bring a simplified clarity to the whole process. I can actually live the advice in this book in my life presently. I don't have to spend months trying to get a grasp of my wound. I can now live the life I am working towards. I personally got what I needed from this book, even with the needed exercises, within one day. I am glad I bought it and highly recommend it.

Excellent!

Thank you Michelle Skeen. I can not put this book down. I can not believe how helpful this book is. It is teaching me how to let go of my damaging ways of thinking that I have learned over the years. That thinking includes not trusting, self-loathing and self-sabotage. These hardwired feelings were destroying my relationship with my husband. A relationship I do not want to lose. I started seeking out why I could not trust. Was I right by following my intuition that he was cheating on me. That every time he did something nice there was an ulterior motive. If he didn't answer my texts or calls that gave me validity of my thoughts. Who would ever think that maybe it could have something to do with my self preservation process? And, god forbid, he might have other reasons for not answering my texts or calls. If you have any thoughts like I do, this book is a relationship saver.

Skeen does a beautiful job of leading readers not only on a journey ...

As a clinical psychology trainee pursuing a doctoral degree, I have ample reading to do, but this book was an absolute pleasure to read. Dr. Skeen does a beautiful job of leading readers not only on a journey of healing, but also on a journey of discovering why and how their early patterns of interaction are perpetuated. Many texts cover how to solve the present issue, but few cover the root of the issue, which, if addressed, can lead to deeper levels of self-understanding and reaching a place of peace. The text is laid out in an accessible manner so the reader can easily follow along, and it is evident that Dr. Skeen has invested a lot of time into fully researching schema therapy, as well as practicing it. Her writing style is clear and engaging; she really connects with readers as if she is sitting in the chair across from them in a session. Through her words Michelle communicates empathy with readers, and her use of vignettes helps those fearing abandonment understand that this is a very real, prevalent struggle, but also one that they can overcome. I would consider this to be a text not only for those who wish to explore their own relationships, but also for clinicians and trainees as well. Bravo on this one! Great read that I am happy to have added to my library for practice in the future.

Outstanding analytical work and a unique source

"Interpreting Precedents" is an outstanding analytical work as well as a unique source for further analysis.
The majority of the book is devoted to separate chapters on the eleven jurisdictions studied by the group: the Federal Republic of Germany, Finland, France, Italy, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States (State of New York), and the European Union. The jurisdictions can be roughly located on a continuum of approaches to determining the ratio decidendi, with fact-based holdings at one end and theoretical legal abstractions at the other. On this continuum, the approach followed in the United States be longs near the fact-based end of the spectrum, followed by the United Kingdom and the Scandinavian countries, and then perhaps Germany. The remaining jurisdictions, including France and the European Court of Justice, can be plotted or grouped near the other end. The eleven chapters on separate jurisdictions are followed by insightful studies on individual topics.
Continental European reliance on precedent will increase in the coming years under the influence of at least five interrelated forces. The first force is the Europeanization of Europe. Citizens within the European Union are constantly being confronted with new, sometimes foreign legal norms and concepts. Second, the homogeneity of European courts and bars is eroding. Third, the proliferation of computers puts past decisions at the fingertips of judges and lawyers. Fourth, the ever increasing density of regulation, and the rapid changes in norms, mean more need for precedents, not less. Fifth, and most profoundly, legal realism, or some theory akin to it, is replacing positivism. This evolution reinforces the tendency to view judicial decisionmaking as something personal and individual, rather than as a component of a harmonious system of legislation. As judges become more self-conscious of their regulatory role, they will intensify their nascent, self-imposed adherence to precedent in order to reduce political disapproval, and to forestall legislative measures to restrict their ability to stray from precedent.
For decades to come, "Interpreting Precedents" will serve as a benchmark in the Europeanization of precedent, and as a sourcebook for further research. But it is much more. It is a unique collection of outstanding insights into judicial structures and legitimacy, legal theory and reasoning, and comparative law.

I used Grevisse in learning and teaching French in high school and as a correspondence course instructor and later teaching (mostly) engineering undergraduates. But where it was truly indispensable to me was in translating and interpreting the (in)famously difficult and often poetic texts of the equally (in)famous genius of 20th century psychoanalysis, literary criticism, and philosophy (to name just three areas of his great influence), Dr Jacques Lacan. With the help of Grevisse, I was able to complete my Ph.D thesis (The Language of the Self, ©1968 anthony wilden). Lacan was pleased enough with the accuracy and depth of the English version and notes and commentary that he sought to have the text translated into French with the title Lacan et le discours de l'Autre. Without all those years studying Grevisse, I would never have been able to create this book. The latest edition is superb! I pay homage to the many great French and other scholars like Grevisse who sent us on our way and kept us such good company.

That's the lesson of this simple tale, imported from Switzerland. It's a useful one for future sneaker and designer clothing shoppers, for rainbow fish--and for quieter, plainer minnows, too.

Despite some jazzy special effects achieved with shimmery holographs, this cautionary tale about selfishness and vanity has trouble staying afloat. Rainbow Fish, "the most beautiful fish in the entire ocean," refuses to share his prized iridescent scales--which, indeed, flash and sparkle like prisms as each page is turned. When his greed leaves him without friends or admirers, the lonely fish seeks advice from the wise octopus, who counsels him to give away his beauty and "discover how to be happy." The translation from the original German text doesn't enhance the story's predictable plot, and lapses into somewhat vague descriptions: after sharing a single scale, "a rather peculiar feeling came over Rainbow Fish." Deep purples, blues and greens bleed together in Pfister's liquid watercolors; unfortunately, the watery effect is abruptly interrupted by a few stark white, text-only pages. Ages 4-8.

PreSchool-Grade 1-- Children will be immediately drawn to this book that features an iridescent, metallic-looking main character whose ``scales were every shade of blue and green and purple, with sparkling silver scales among them.'' Adult suspicions of the gimmick overwhelming the story quickly fade as the plot unfolds: none of the other fish will have anything to do with the Rainbow Fish, who always swims by superciliously and refuses to give away any of his special garb. He is lonely and without admirers until a wise female octopus advises him to give away his scales. Rainbow Fish then discovers that sharing brings happiness and acceptance. The delicate watercolors of underwater scenes are a perfect foil to the glittering scales that eventually form a part of each fish's exterior. This is certainly a story written to convey a message, but in its simplicity, it recalls the best of Lionni. Extraordinary Imaging and Classic Story Line

I bought this book for my two-year-old daughter. She loves me to read to her every night before bed time. This is one of my child's favorite books to have read to her. I always enjoyed reading this book as I grew up so I knew for a fact that my daughter would enjoy this book just as much as I always had. I would recommend the hardback copy of this book. The pages have magnificent illustrations and my daughter loves the way "The Rainbow Fish" sparkles. Besides the extraordinary imaging, the story line is classic. Great story line to teach your young ones about the importance of generosity and the effectiveness of greed. I would highly recommend this book to any parents that want to get their children interested in reading!

heart warming and profoundly delightful

This is one of my all-time favorite books. I can't even count how many times it's made me cry. It instills a very good lesson about sharing so everyone is happy. the illustrations are so beautiful as well. there is a lot of talk about shine, shimmer, sparkle. every kid loves shiny things. even the big kids.

wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Nephew liked the pictures but the story is not good. I don't agree with some of the logic in it. it does not celebrate diversity.

Mostly hit the mark

Another day, another business book that has a different statistic to show why a company may fail. This time, it is 66% of small businesses and the reason for their demise is mostly due to their own inaction.

Entrepreneur Darren Hardy has written a mixture of business autobiography and self-help inspirational guide, looking at the highs and lows of entrepreneurship. Running your own business does test your emotions to the max. Many compare it to parenting. There will be a lot of highs and pride-filled moments but also some very frustrating, soul crushing lows. We are all different.

For this reviewer, the information provided was interesting and helpful - it is just the style and the way the book is put together was grating. It needs a sequential read and a bit of patience to get the most out of it, pulling some of the key points into the limelight with a pair of pliers. It is worth the rolled coaster relationship you might form with it though!

The author brings some very incisive, often-overlooked points to the party that can be equally applicable to regular corporations. How many leaders and managers forget they are still sales people at heart, as the author notes: “Even if you have a sales force selling your product for you, you’re still going to be selling “big ideas” to partners and “the vision” to your employees. You’re going to be selling to new recruits persuading them to join you, banks to back you, vendors to trust you, and the manufacturers that make your product to speed up production and keep up the great work. You’re going to be convincing people to do their best. You’ll be asking people to lower their prices. You’re going to push, pull, persuade, negotiate, wheel, and deal. You’re going to sell. All day. Every day. That’s business.”

Entrepreneurs are chided for hiding away from sales opportunities, noting that many tend to wrongly spend their time focussing on to-do lists, email checking, social media monitoring, endless meetings or paperwork. These can be necessary evils, but selling needs to be king.

Maybe you don’t like the word “SELL” for whatever reason. Why not use the author’s suggestion of replacing this with “HELP” - so look how you can help others, look how your product or service can address someone’s deepest need or fear, consider what problem does it solve and articulate how it can make a positive difference?

“Stop selling. Help instead,” as the author forcefully points out, adding “… if what you have doesn’t help? Then you’ve either got the wrong prospect or the wrong product.”

So style and packaging notwithstanding – and this can be a highly personal thing – the book does deliver a lot of interesting, thought provoking ideas and concepts that may help you sustain and possibly transform your entrepreneurial activities. It appears to be one of the more credible books of its kind.

BUCKLE UP...for an amazing adventure

Darren's new book is a work of art. It's packaged with intention, written with creativity, and presented with passion. I've listened to it 2 times, read it once, and attended the live event in Dallas, TX. Sure some of the content is basic for seasoned entrepreneurs, but how often we forget the basics and repeat "basic" mistakes. This is now a book I suggest to many of my clients just starting out so they know what's coming around the next turn. It's one of my top 3 reads in the last 24 months.

I found myself laughing out loud regarding the story about Space Mountain, cheering when Darren overcame the resistance with the water filters, and resonating when reading about the crabs. This book will fire you up with inspiration and then send you out with practical application to go make your entrepreneurial mandate a reality! Thanks Darren, Meredith, and the SUCCESS team.

If you're picking up a Haynes Manual, you know what you're getting into. There are some pictures, but not quite enough. Helps you get through some of those tricky spots when replacing things like the ball joints, axles, etc. This thing is kind of required if you own a rig, IMO. If they print one, get one. It'll help any DIY mechanic.

My son and husband is so greatful that they were able to get this book. My son's first car is a 1994 Dakota Pick up truck. My husband and son are working on this truck together to get it running before my son turns 16 in just a few short months. Came in very helpfull

Save your money

This book tries to do too much. I needed to change my oil pressure sending unit in my Dakota and there is no reference to an oil pressure sending unit much less a picture of one in this book. A waste of time and money.
