Awesome--good resource for DMs

I'm sure every Dm has a little trouble figuring what new magical items to stump his players with. This resource solves the problem forever.With everything from amulets to daggers to "Goerl's Portable Tackle Box and Canoe" to dice to cards to boxes to bags to art to armor to axes to candles to boats to........... you get the point. There are plenty of items that are beneficial to your characters, and also a few that will annoy them or even be dangerous. There are some joke items, such as the Mystical Brown Coating Box or the above canoe and tackle box, some fun stuff, like flatboxes and cloaks of changing, some useful stuff, like magic carpets and amulets, some powerful stuff, like "The Tarot Deck of Many Things" some Artifacts, and even some cursed stuff. Essential for DMs, but not for players. This item also makes for some memorable moments. I'll always remember the time my players found the Candle of Convocation, which transports them to a high-school pep rally on a different plane of existence, and which they can't leave till they win the cheering contest. The players acted it out, and since our meetings have been outside (thanks to my parents). Anyway, this item is a must-have for all DMs, and if you get it, you will sure be satisfied.

Encyclopedia Magica is a MUST!

Encyclopedia Magica vols 1-4 has to be one of the BEST Dungeons and Dragons accessories ever made and a definite must-have for every DM!
Within its 1664 pages, one finds magical item after magical item from various different worlds; from Oerth, Krynn, Toril and many others. It is a vast compilation of items and artifacts that have been published over the years in modules, adventures, accessories, magazines etc and are now presented in compact form for the convenience of us, the players. Presented alphabetically, with very good descriptions- including stating the origin- and with very nice art, Encyclopedia Magica is a great addition to anyone's collection. Myself, I proudly display my copies on my shelves for all to see and for me to admire.
In short, if you don't have the four Encyclopedia Magica volumes, GET THEM! It might take a bit of searching to locate the copies, but it's well worth it!

Excellent magical items source for DM's and gamers alike

Well, to start with you'd expect this book to be entirely stacked to the rafters with the utmost in specific magics from all corners of the AD&D gaming worlds. When in actual fact it is stacked to the rafters with the utmost in specific magics from all corners of the AD&D gaming worlds. There are some good, some not so good and some damn right evil pieces of equipment in here. Naturally it is a bit of a pain having to buy all 4 to get the full benefit, but imagine the fun with all those amulets, and armour types. To be honest it is not great. But it does list every magical item from the DM guide (1st edition) to Dragon magazine (about issue 200). It's really good, honest!

In the collection's opening poem, the speaker reckons, '...verdicts come in a bloodline' and she determines 'to recover' from 'an ordeal with medicine' by 'learn[ing] why ghosts come to me.' She ends her testimony by asking, 'Why am I patient?' (Read that line in however many nuanced ways you want.) In this profoundly layered witnessing, the subject might be 'in the dark ghetto of my body,' or 'an idea of metaphors that live where bodies cannot.' Bettina Judd is a visual and performance artist and writer born in Baltimore, Maryland and raised in Southern California. She is a researcher and teacher in Women's, Gender, and African American studies. A Cave Canem Fellow and Pushcart nominee, her poetry can be found in the literary journals Meridians, Torch, Mythium, and Aunt Chloe. She is the author of PATIENT. (Black Lawrence Press, 2014).

Theme - recovery, the many aspects

California poet, writer and performance and visual artist Bettina Judd also is a researcher and teacher in Women's, Gender, and African American studies. Her powers of communication come from a rich intellect as well as a sensitivity to issues other ignore. This book of poems, her first solo anthology, is powerful as well as exquisitely written. Her subject - Recovery - be that in the memory of some famous `patients' or form assaults on the human form in other ways.

"Their disease made it possible for them to believe whatever lies it was necessary for them to pursue and indulge their disease, even to the point of them believing they were not enslaved by it, but actually free.”

Drug addiction is something I have a hard time understanding and wrapping my head around. This book taps into the minds of lonely, broken souls that find solace in drugs and imagination. I would have loved for this book to be in an audiobook version because of the writing style. Never the less it is a great read that reveals the reality of drug addiction. It’s definitely a twisted book from the start to the end and does not finish with a happy ending for the main characters.

“I think that’s one of the problems with the world today nobody knows who they are. Everyone is running around looking for an identity, or trying to borrow one, only they don’t know it.”

I had seen the movie and although I enjoyed it very much I think the book was much better. The use of unusual punctuation and the differences in the language and cadence by character really added to the experience.

Brutally honest, gripping

A brutally honest portrayal of addiction and how it destroys lives. Harry Goldfarb, his girlfriend Marion, and his friend Tyrone C. Love become increasingly dependent on heroin until their lives consist of nothing but scoring, selling and shooting up. Meanwhile, Harry's mother Sara becomes hooked on diet pills. The stream-of-consciousness writing style perfectly suits the subject matter, as we are drawn into the minds of the characters and witness their painful and inexorable slide into darkness.

About the Author

Tariq Ramadan is Professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies at Oxford University, teaching in two Faculties of Oriental Studies and Theology & Religion. He is Senior Research Fellow at St Antony's College (Oxford) and Doshisha University (Kyoto, Japan); Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, (Qatar); Director of the Research Centre of Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE) (Doha, Qatar), President of the think tank European Muslim Network (EMN) in Brussels and a member of the International Union of Muslim Scholars.

He holds an MA in Philosophy and French literature and PhD in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the University of Geneva. Through his writings and lectures Tariq Ramadan has contributed to the debate on the issues of Muslims in the West and Islamic revival in the Muslim world. He is active at both academic and grassroots levels.

About the Author
Tom Stevenson has been writing about wine for more than 30 years and is regarded as the world's leading authority on Champagne. He has written 23 books, the most important of which have been published internationally by more than 50 publishers and translated into over 25 languages. In 1986, his book Champagne (Wilson, Philip Publishers, Limited) became the first wine book to win four literary awards, establishing Stevenson's reputation as a serious author, a fastidious researcher with a talent for divining future issues, and a critic bold enough to take on the establishment. He is also the author of Sotheby's Wine Encyclopedia (DK Publishing, Inc.), with sales of more than 1.5 million in all editions worldwide. Essi Avellan MW is one of the world's most exciting and talented young wine writers. Recently updated: A great overview of sparkling wines of the world.

This text covers sparkling wines from every major wine producing country in the world. The bulk of the text does cover Champagne, and there are large sections devoted to Sekt, Cava, and Italian sparkling wine (Franciacorta, Asti, etc...). The text has a broad overview of sparkling wine production, then each section has a preface with information pertaining to said region. Within the regions, the text has individual producer entries.

While this isn't something that one would necessarily need for passing WSET or CMS exams, it is a handy reference for broadening knowledge of the producers of sparkling wines. Each entry also has a score indicating quality and potential. Champagne houses seem to have the edge, which is natural, but the authors have given some good scores to producers outside the classic region, though with a lower overall average. And while many folks may agree or disagree with the scores, it nonetheless makes for a good barometer for those navigating the thousands of producers in this book.

Also of note, Champagne producers are listed with the type of establishment they operate: RM, NM, and so on. This can help readers determine which producers grow their own grapes and which purchase grapes (though it is generally not a quality indicator).

If you have someone who loves Champagne and gets really geeky about individual producers, then this is a great gift idea. It can be quite technical, but the information is heavily researched and well laid out. For those more interested in the drink but not the technical information, there are some books which discuss more of the history and have less technical information.
