Not kid friendly at rimes

The book gives a good perspective on a character often not given lot of importance in Ramayana. But some portions are not kid friendly. The author has used her imaginations and this is more like a historical account, though not fictional has shades of it. I wish the book was kid friendly for elementary and middle school children.

Good portrayal

This book was an excellent read. It shows Urmila as a strong woman with convictions. Perhaps a contrast was needed to show Mandavi as she was portrayed in the book. I was a little disappointed that the exile of Sita after their return when she was pregnant and her being swallowed up by the earth did not merit more than a couple of sentences though. Those would have been prime ground for the author to share her thoughts about those aspects of the story through Urmila's voice.

Well written. Urmila is definitely a heroine whose sacrifices were not given its due.
My issue with the book was that I have been brought up from childhood, hearing and reading the tale of Urmila's sacrifice, when she bids farewell to her husband as a young bride for the sake of her sister and brother in law. She takes laxman's share of sleep, thereby giving the chance to laxman to safe guard Ram and Sita.
In this book, the story itself is different, wherein Urmila looks after the whole family for the 14 years.
The book is enjoyable to read, but since the version clashed with mine, I wasn't convinced.

Overwhelming in size and content - overused and heavily marked book

This was my first William Blake book. First and foremost, the book was almost falling apart as it was so used and marked and written on the margins all over by the person before me and also the paper seemed old. This book should not have been sold. I think the previous owner wanted to let it go and did not know how as he had, it seems, a strong relationship with this book over the years. I could not look in it as it was overwhelming. I donated it to the local library.

Also, I don't think this is a right book for someone who wants to be introduced to Blake and his poetry. That was another thing. But if the book was new, then I could have returned it. But it was not worth to spend more money to return it.

The Best Edition!

Mr. Keynes' edition of Blake's complete poetry and prose is the one I've used not only at Shimer College, but also in Russia and China when I taught Blake there. Mr. Keynes arranges Blake's writings chronologically. The reader can thus more clearly see how Blake's mythic system evolves. Clarity matters when a reader falls into a universe as visionary and fluid as William Blake's.
Each poem is a like a magical brick in the mystical structure Blake ultimately builds. His work begins in Innocence, a world where science, imagination, love, and wild beasts blithely dance in balance. When the cruelty, greed, and fears of Experience blight the peaceable kingdoms then society and the human soul split into warring factions.
Blake has been called apocalyptic. In his late great prophetic books families, lovers, societies, and the ecosystem fall to bits. But Los, Blake's heroic artist, "keeps the divine vision in times of trouble." Techno-science and institutionalized greed overshadow the earth, but Los keeps on building Golgonooza, the gorgeous city of art which ultimately connects heaven and earth. This can bring Jerusalem (the feminine divine)back into the heart of Albion (the universal humanity). When the feminine divine suffuses masculine power all things coalesce in a cosmic orgasm of art, science, pleasure, and prayer. "There is no body distinct from the soul!" Mr. Blake proclaimed in his Marriage of Heaven & Hell. "Everything that lives is Holy!" cries Oothoon, whose indestructible purity embraces the love that's "free as the mountain wind." She's become a role model for some exuberant Shimer students.

About the Author
Kathleen Ouimet Perrin Ph.D., RN, CCRN
Kathleen Perrin is a professor of nursing at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, where she teaches critical care nursing, professional nursing, ethics, and understanding suffering. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, her master’s degree from Boston College, and her Ph.D. from Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, Ohio. She has been a practicing critical care nurse for over 30 years and a member of the American Association of Critical Care (AACN) Nurses for nearly as long. Kathleen has served on the board of the Southern New Hampshire AACN and is a past president of the chapter. She is currently President of the Epsilon Tau chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. She has published and presented in the areas of critical care nursing, nursing ethics, nursing history, suffering experienced by patients as well as health care providers, and conflict among members of the health care team.

This book can be a bit dry but overall it is very informative. I learned a lot from this book and I think it has pretty good explanations!

Practical Info for a New Nurse in ICU

I work as a tech in a medical ICU and will be working there when I graduate from nursing school. After perusing many other critical care books, this one covered the most real-world topics that you'll see right off the bat when you get into a MICU. I'm not saying other books aren't great, but for a starter book I think this is an excellent choice.
Example topics like Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome (AWS) and liver failure related to Tylenol overdose are not covered in most other books, if at all, but they are well explained here. I also love the meds sections. Under the appropriate topics, medications are listed and are often named (not just a class of meds). For example, in the dysrhythmia chapter there are in-depth descriptions of Amiodarone, Procainamide, Lidocaine and magnesium - the desired effects, nursing responsibilities and side effects. Fantastic!... not just another umbrella explanation to use an "anti-dysrhythmic" drug.
To top it off, the book doesn't seem too much like a textbook. It is easier to read; I think of it more as a manual. Highly recommend!

Besides being required this text was a nice surprise. Its readable, technical and of an appropriate scope to the subject. I feel like my readings were time well spent rather than reinforcing my need to look to other sources.

Too often I have to buy books that are compliments by the authors to themselves in their overwhelming detail and included information. Just send me a resume to ignore, let the text be a useful tool.

Kudos for being paperback. No need for this to be a coffee table book with clay-finish papers and a hard cover sporting a pertinant photograph; I just need the info, not to be baffled by the presentation.

Initiated by Delaney's Desert Sheikh and A Little Dare, respectively, THORN'S CHALLENGE showcases Thorn Westmoreland who is appropriately named because he is a thorn in everyone's side, especially his family. Moody, cantankerous and temperamental, Thorn is a professional motorcycle designer and racer who withholds himself from others to prepare for the big money making races.
Thorn's challenge is none other than the feisty Tara Matthews, resident doctor and best friend of Thorn's sister Delaney. Tara was introduced in Delaney's Desert Sheikh and because of a love gone wrong, Tara now has no time for romance or one night stands. Thorn's motives are all wrong as he sets out to tame Tara with a deal that will either make or break both of them and the entire Westmoreland family.
I truly enjoy Brenda Jackson's connecting books because she sets the stage for the next book with subtle hints of hits and misses that will pique your senses. The remaining brothers, Stone, Chase and Storm, are endearing and hilarious and it will be a treat to see their stories unfold.

A Definite Page-Turner Well Worth the Loss of Sleep!

EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT READ! Brenda Jackson has done it once again. This book was very well-written with the action jumping off in the first chapter. Thorn exudes masculinity, sex appeal, strength, and confindence which will have you falling head over heels in love with him. Tara is strong-willed, intelligent, fiesty, and stubborn which will have you cheering her on. Both Thorn and Tara are healing from broken hearts and have vowed to never fall in love again. Unbeknownst to the pair, their hot and steamy relationship is the perfect foundation for eternal love.

The Prick of Love

"Thorn's Challenge" definitely has a prick of love involved. The Westmoreland clan has teased Thorn for approximately 2 years regarding Tara Matthews, whom they named as "Thorn's challenge." Thorn is a motorcycle builder and once thought he was in love, but got pricked when the woman was not all that Thorn thought she was or should have been. Love life for Tara had not been any better. Tara was left at the altar by the man she thought she loved and loved her in return. However, life has its ups and downs and its thorns to bear.
Tara meets Thorn and the other Westmoreland through friendship with their sister, Delaney. Once Tara and Thorn meet electricity sparks and they are destined for some thorny challenges in their lives. They both must overcome the obstacles love has placed in their lives. However, their mounting feelings for each other are becoming hard to cover up. Over the months and years since their meeting, their love grows and soon there is no denying that Tara and Thorn are meant to be together and that they have to let love overcome any challenges they are up against. Tara and Thorn fight their desire, but once the torch is ignited, the flame of love grows and grows into a full fledged romance.
Tara is indeed Thorn's challenge and Thorn is the match to light Tara's fire.

Very short serial but entertaining

Super fast and short alien kidnapping story. Unlike most of these abduction stories, Evie is aware of what's going on rather than being snatched in her sleep or off the street. This is a fated mates type story rather than the aliens-have-no-women-and-must-steal-breeders kind of deal. There was no time to develop the characters or do any real world building and most of the story was taken up with sex scenes. I liked the brief picture of the Fremm and would like to get more of their culture and world--hopefully that's in the next book. While there's not a cliffhanger per se this is an obvious serial with an abrupt ending and much more story to come. I read this through KU so I plan to follow up with the sequel. Be aware that the title work reflects only part of the the page count; another short story and a number of pages listing the author's other works and giving contact info for the mailing list, etc. takes up quite a bit of space.

I think there were too many errors and inconsistencies in this book to really be enjoyed. I know that it is a novella, but there wasn't enough back story to have the readers understand. Also, there was just too much going on and I felt there was a great lack of chemistry. Believable chemistry. It was too much like a caveman story where man sees woman, likes woman, and then kidnaps her. I needed more.

I love a good destined mate story

I love a good destined mate story. There is something about finding the one and only person you are meant to be with. Aster, who never believed in mates himself, must convince Evie they are meant to be together. There is an instant attraction, on his side at least, which has Aster behaving foolishly.

Evie spies Aster while working and is attracted to this big blue alien. When he asks to spend time with her, how could she say no? She doesn’t believe in this mate business he keeps going on about. She is surprised when she finds out he’s a Prince. Can things get much more complicated?

Misunderstandings get in the way and must be smoothed over if there is any chance for Evie to be his. You could stop with the ending in this one, but it just wet my appetite for the rest of Aster and Evie’s story. So onto book two!

About the Author
Michel Gagne was born in Quebec, Canada. He studied animation at Sheridan College School of Visual Arts in Ontario, Canada and in 1985, began a highly successful artistic career.

Renowned for his unique vision, Michel has lent his talent to several animation companies, such as Don Bluth Studios, Warner Bros., Disney, Pixar, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, etc. His creative work can be seen in over twenty feature films including: The Iron Giant, Osmosis Jones, and Ratatouille. His short films, Prelude to Eden and Insanely Twisted Shadow Puppets, are favorites among animation students and teachers, and have played in festivals throughout the world. He was honored by the International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood, with four Annie Award nominations. He continues to create animation, special effects and conceptual designs for companies all over the world.

Michel is also very active in the publishing world having written and illustrated a dozen books, as well as two ongoing comic series: ZED and The Saga of Rex. His work has been published by DC Comics, Image Comics, Random House as well as Michel's own imprint, GAGNE International Press.

Tagore is outstanding!

After learning about Tagore at the Art Institute in Chicago, I decided I had to read his writings. I have fallen in love with his poetry and am so happy that I have this book which allows me to read not only his poetry but his essays, stories, and plays. He's truly the most amazing writer I had never heard of!!

Tagore Deserves So Much Better

Oh boy, what a disappointment! The breadth of this endeavor was oh-so promising. But this volume will set back the reputation of the transcendent, genius poet Rabinadranath Tagore for a decade or two. The authors made the terrible mistake of FORCING Tagore's lines to rhyme in couplets rather than let his imagery flower in all its incomparable majesty. Instead of a display of constant genius we get thousands of rhymes worthy of the worst of high school poetry. For those new to Tagore, go for older volumes of his poetry, prose, and plays. Stay away from this travesty--a total whiff. What were they thinking; trying to show off their own cleverness? Tagore would slap them with a big, colorful, wet flower. Fail.

Tagore is such an essential addition to my library. I adore him. I wished there had been more poetry, but it is a comprehensive overview of his large body of work.
